I can see that happening...especially since I started watching it as my husband recovered from a painful, full spinal fusion surgery. It's that element of power and immortality mixed into a sexy package. The fantasy of becoming something awesome like that makes us drunk on the shows, movies and books.

There may be truth to these theories. But what struck me most was the absence of J. R. Ward's Black Dagger Brotherhood Series on Margot Adler's List of Vampire Books! She's obviously a little behind in her reading.

I can totally see her point. Yes, there are enviromental concerns now but also a worldwide reccession to consider. People look to escape I think. THey like to imagine a world where illness and money and aging and all of the human things are of no concern. There is much to do about making them more humanistic I think because we want the best of both worlds. We want to lose that which bothers us but keep that which we love most.

Yeah, the Vampire can be such a metaphor for so many things, well, any monster, really. Werewolves and Vampires and man made creatures and even Space Aliens.
